Online retailer Castore has picked Liverpool as the location of its second bricks-and-mortar store and the first one outside of London.

The north west city also doubles up as the location of Castore’s headquarters, and is where brothers Tom and Phil Beahon grew up before they co-founded the premium sporstwear label in 2015.

Castore’s new store will be located within the Liverpool One retail precinct in a 1579sq ft unit on Manesty’s Lane, and is slated to open April 10.

Castore said its new store will complement its flagship on King’s Road in Chelsea, London, as well as its growing ecommerce presence in 57 countries, which includes online stockists MatchesFashion, Selfridges and Mr Porter.

The news comes a week after Castore raised £7.5 million from undisclosed private investors to help expand its range into professional team sports kit and footwear as well as accelerate international growth.

Last year, the online retailer announced a partnership with tennis champion Andy Murray, which saw him become a shareholder as well as wear Castore kit on court.

Castore has since signed a three-year deal with Cricket West Indies to become their official team kit partner from June 2020, and it is slated to launch a collaboration with McLaren Automotive later this year amidst an annual revenue forecast of £37 million for the year.

Castore also plans to use its recent cash injection from investors to leverage its expertise in technology-driven product development and digital marketing to become the official kit supplier of teams from the Premier League, La Liga and Bundesliga for the 2021 season.

“After a successful emergence on to the online and London markets, our unrelenting commitment to engineering the highest quality sportswear in the world has propelled us to this exciting expansion,” Castore co-founder Tom Beahon said.

“Castore was born in Liverpool and the city holds huge significance in our hearts, so we can’t wait to open this new location and join the brilliant line-up of brands at Liverpool One.”

Alison Clegg, the asset management director at Grosvenor Europe, which owns Liverpool One, said: “Liverpool One has become a beacon for brands venturing outside of the capital due to the destination’s innovative selection of world-class names, and consistently strong footfall figures.

“Castore has become a brand of choice for athletes across the world who demand the very best quality.

“With its roots firmly in the city, we are sure Castore will be widely welcomed amongst Liverpool One’s catchment.”

Cushman and Wakefield and Metis acted for Liverpool ONE. Castore dealt directly.
