Hamleys is poised to open its first standalone store in Edinburgh after agreeing terms to open a shop within the recently-opened St James Quarter precinct.
Set to open in the coming weeks, Hamleys will take a 2475sq ft unit at the 1.7 million sq ft city centre retail destination in central Edinburgh, helping to create 10 new local jobs.
This is Hamley’s first standalone store in Edinburgh, they have twice had a concession inside the iconic Jenners House of Fraser store.

It will also be Hamley’s second standalone store in Scotland, already having a presence in Glasgow.
Hamleys is also regarded as the oldest and biggest toy retailer in the world, after being founded in London in 1760.
“We are delighted to open at St James Quarter,” said Sumeet Yadav, global retail business chief executive Hamleys’ parent company Reliance Retail.
“Every year more than 10 million families visit us across the world for a unique Hamleys experience where we bring to life many Worlds of Play.
“Every visit to Hamleys is a reward in itself, the toy purchase is a bonus for the child.
“I am sure children will build lasting memories of fun and joy while adults will relive memories of their childhood at Hamleys in Edinburgh.”
This latest signing at St James Quarter, which recently opened the first phase of its retail, dining and leisure elements in June this year, further bolsters the St James Quarter offer, according to the site’s operator Nuveen Real Estate.
“The Hamleys brand has been a staple of the British shopping scene for over 260 years, and we are thrilled to add them to our line-up,” Nuveen Real Estate retail director Chris Pyne said.
“Hamleys will further diversify the great mix of international brands and popular local names at St James Quarter as we seek to build further on our exceptional shopping offer.”
