// Poundland accelerates plans to roll out its chilled and frozen food ranges to 100 more stores
// This will take the total to around 350 in the UK
// Four of the new stores in the programme will be among the largest in the group
Poundland has launched plans to bring its chilled and frozen food ranges to around 100 more stores between now and the end of September.
This will take the total to around 350 in the UK and put it on track to pass the 500-mark in 2023.
The rollout will include more than 30 new stores and relocations already in the pipeline.
Four of the new stores in the programme will be among the largest in the group, featuring the widest range of items and spacious layouts.
The first of the large format stores will be at Nottingham Riverside Retail Park which will open in February, with more than 18,000sq ft of retail space, three times larger than a typical 6000 sq ft Poundland store.
It will be followed soon after by Teesside Retail Park in Thornaby, with a 15,250sq ft ground floor and a 5474sq ft mezzanine.
The new year rollout of chilled and frozen food into around 100 stores marks phase six of project Diamond ICE which started with a single pilot store in 2019 and has since been extended across England and into Wales and Northern Ireland.
Work on the latest phase starts in February, with details of locations to be announced closer to the time.
“The coming year will see us step up our transformation programme – including some of our largest stores and widest ranges – as we become the Poundland we know our customers want us to be,” Poundland managing director Barry Williams said.
“From groceries to clothing, homewares to frozen food, day-by-day we’ll continue to bring much more to customers in new and exciting stores tailor-made for where they live and how they want to shop.”
