Urban Outfitters global retail boss Claire Arksey has left the business to become chief operating officer at cinema chain Vue International.

Arksey, who was global executive director of retail at Urban Outfitters, had been with the fashion retailer for almost seven years.

She oversaw Urban Outfitters global stores business of nearly 270 shops across 14 countries. She split her time between London and the fashion giant’s global headquarters in Philadelphia.

Arksey was previously head of retail at Superdry and before that led Reiss’ European stores.

Arksey joins Vue as it tries to rebuild its business post-pandemic. The chain, which operates around 225 cinemas in the UK, Poland, Italy, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany and Taiwan, suffered an operating loss of almost £160 million in its last reported financial year to November 30, 2020 as Covid lockdowns shuttered its outlets.

However, Vue weathered the pandemic better than most, with only one cinema closure, in Latvia, which was unrelated to Covid.
