Tesco has ended its reusable packaging trial with Loop.
The grocer had launched the concept, which allows shoppers to buy goods in reusable packaging, online two years ago. It was rolled out to 10 Tesco stores in the east of England 10 months ago.
Tesco has written to customers to inform them that the trial has ended. It said: “While it has been a great success and we have learnt a great deal, we now need to let you know that Tesco has decided to end the trial to reflect on the insights collected”.

Tesco termed Loop a “ground-breaking way for customers to shop” when it first launched the initiative as part of its plan to tackle plastic waste.
Shoppers were able to buy products across food, drink, household and beauty, in reusable packaging that could be returned to store when finished so they can be cleaned, refilled and used again.
Popular brands including Persil, Fever-Tree, Carex, Tetley Tea and BrewDog were part of the trial, alongside 35 Tesco own brand essentials with the price of contents comparable to those in non-reusable packaging.
