WHSmith launches book buyback service

WHSmith has launched a new buy-back scheme across its high street stores to extend the life of pre-loved books.

The retailer has partnered with buy-back service Zeercle to offer customers eGift cards when they trade in their used books.

Customers will need to register online and scan their unwanted books through WHSmith’s website to determine the trade-in value, which is based on its condition, the popularity of the title and demand in the market.

The books can then be dropped off in any participating branch in exchange for a gift card to be used on the retailer’s website or in one of its stores.

The WHSmith Bookcycle scheme forms part of the retailer’s commitment to championing literacy and a love of reading in its local communities, as well as making books accessible and affordable for readers.

Group commercial development director Ian Sanders said: “This is a very exciting new scheme for WHSmith, and it makes great sense for our customers and our business to support a circular economy for books, as we aim to minimise our impact on the environment and support our local communities.

“The buy-back scheme really does offer a compelling reason for customers to recycle their second-hand books, and being able to exchange these for WHSmith eGift cards gives them another great reason to shop with us.”
