Lidl forecasts busiest store times this Christmas

Lidl has revealed the busiest times for shoppers to visit stores over Christmas and confirmed its shop opening times over the period.

The retailer’s data from last year found the busiest times in store were around midday, with the highest levels of footfall between 12pm and 2pm.

Conversely, the grocer found the quietest times were between 8am and 10am or from 6pm onwards.

The Friday before Christmas historically sees the most footfall according to the discounter, and Lidl expects the same trend this year.

To help shoppers find a quiet time to shop, the grocer is providing real-time updates for customers’ chosen stores on the Lidl Plus app.

It also confirmed it will shut stores on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, with many branches also closed for Boxing Day.

Earlier this month, Lidl beat Aldi as the UK’s cheapest supermarket, ending the discounter’s 16-month run.

The latest research from Which? found it was 17p cheaper than Aldi by just 17p, with an average basket costing £74.58.
