Matalan hires ex-M&S digital boss for board role

Matalan has hired former M&S chief digital and technology officer Jeremy Pee as a new non-executive director.

Pee joins the fashion retailer with over 20 years of retail experience, including most recently a five-year tenure at M&S as its digital boss leading the company’s digital transformation.

He led the overhaul of the high-street retailer’s digital capabilities, including turning its stores into hubs for click-and-collect purchases and installing digital screens that allow customers to return unwanted clothing.

Prior to that, Pee held several roles at solutions provider Loblaw Digital, where he established the online division of Canada’s largest retailer, and Staples, where he managed the profit and loss of the retailer’s largest category.

Matalan chair Karl-Heinz Holland said: “[Jeremy] brings deep retail experience and unparalleled expertise in digital and technological transformation.

“I know both will prove hugely valuable as we refine and deliver Matalan’s omnichannel strategy to serve families better.

“We look forward to working with Jeremy as we continue to transform the business.”

Commenting on his appointment Pee added: “Matalan is a stalwart of British retailing, with a rich heritage operating in a market with strong growth opportunities.

“I look forward to working with the Board and the Executive Team to unlock the full potential of digital and omnichannel retailing to build a stronger, more modern Matalan.”
