JD Sports has launched its first store in the Middle East, opening the doors to a shop at Bahrain’s Marassi Galleria Mall.
The store opening, which was launched in partnership with global retailer and distributor GMG, sets the stage for JD’s expansion in the Middle East market, according to the retailer.
The launch of the 5,422 sq ft store was marked by a ceremonial ribbon cutting followed by activities over the long weekend.
JD international franchise director Chris Rowan said: “This is a further milestone in our international expansion strategy and we are delighted to be working with GMG, one of the Middle East’s most respected companies, as we continue to bring JD’s distinctive offering to more customers globally.”

GMG president for sports Carl Masterman added: “We have collectively witnessed the buzz and demand that JD, The King of Trainers has generated, inspiring the emerging generation of globally minded consumers through the universal culture of sport, music and fashion.
“The brand’s arrival promises an exhilarating journey ahead; one where quality, innovation and passion for an exemplary shopping experience converge to redefine the athleisure and sports fashion space.”
JD’s partnership with GMG will allow the brand to deliver on the rollout of its ‘JD Brand First’ strategy, according to the retailer.
It added that GMG would open around 50 stores under the JD fascia by 2028, focusing on locations in the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt under the terms of the 10-year agreement.
Last week, JD Sports requested all of its head office employees based around the world returned to the office at least four days a week.
The new policy, effective July 1, will impact employees at the sports giant’s UK head office in Bury.
