John Lewis unveils UK’s largest range of rentable menswear

John Lewis has rolled out the largest range of menswear brands to rent on the high street, following the success of its womenswear rental.

The platform, which is powered by rental and resale marketplace Hurr, will host a curated selection of brands with prices starting from £40 for a four-day rental for a dinner jacket and trousers with sizes from 34 to 46.

Shoppers will be able to browse the collection online, choosing to rent a garment for 4, 8, 16 or 30 days with next-day delivery if needed.

Once the items have been chosen, they will be posted to John Lewis shoppers with a pre-paid postage label for returns. The items will later be dry cleaned by Hurr and ready to be rented again.

Brands available to rent under the retailer’s range include Boss Tailoring, Charles Tyrwhitt and new brand Hay Life.

The move comes after searches for “mens rental” have consistently appeared in the top 30 search terms on the John Lewis website for the past 18 months, according to the business.

The global menswear rental industry was predicted to be worth £2.36bn by 2027, according to The Global Online Rental Report.

John Lewis commercial director Kathleen Mitchell said: “We’re unique on the high street to be able to offer the widest range of multiple brands to rent from everyday suits to more premium brands and styles.

“A perfect solution for a last minute dinner party or day at the races. This is just the beginning of menswear rental and we’re really excited to see it grow.”

The company initially launched womenswear rental in 2022, which has since seen a 52% increase in members and a 40% rise of rentals year on year.
