AllSaints founder Stuart Trevor has said he would be “horrified” if Shein goes ahead with its London listing, labelling the retailer as the “worst” offender in the industry.

Speaking to City AM, Trevor said: “Fast fashion really has changed the whole industry, because it’s now like a race to the bottom… The planet cannot afford it.

“Everybody’s got wardrobes full of clothes that they don’t wear. We’re never going to stop people from buying clothes, but it would be better if we could encourage people to create longer-lasting items of clothes.”

The fashion designer, who sold AllSaints back in 2007 and currently mentors businesses on sustainability, is not the only executive to have spoken out against Shein in recent times.

In July, former Asos CEO Nick Beighton spoke out against Shein’s listing on the London Stock Exchange, describing elements of the retailer’s business model as “genius” but “something to be terrified about”.

The comments come as Shein gears up to list in London in the first half of 2025 providing it secures regulatory approval, sources have said.

Earlier this month, the fast fashion giant was accused of “wilful ignorance” after MPs were left “horrified” when the fast fashion giant failed to answer questions on whether forced labour exists in its supply chain.

In a hearing before the business and trade committee, MPs said they had “almost zero confidence in the integrity” of the online giant’s supply chain after it failed to comment on whether it sources cotton from China, and more specifically, the region of Xinjiang.
