Wowcher has issued an apology for sending out a marketing email making light of last week’s crocodile pit incident, which resulted in uproar from consumers.
According to Metro, the email in question featured the subject line: “Snap up these deals quicker than a croc can catch a kid!” The email contained advertisements for a spa experience in Hampshire and a kayak ride for two.
After being sent out it faced severe criticism from the public, with people sharing it on social media.
This follows news last week that a three-year-old boy had suffered serious injuries after allegedly being thrown into a crocodile pit at Johnsons of Old Hurst Zoo in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
A thirty-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the crime.
A spokesperson from Wowcher said: “We are extremely sorry for an email subject line sent by Wowcher yesterday. The wording was unacceptable. It should never have been written; it was never approved for use. The responsibility sits with us, and we are urgently reviewing how our processes failed.
“We recognise the hurt and distress it has caused, particularly for the young child’s family at this unimaginably difficult time. The company is now ‘reviewing all scheduled marketing content’, insisting that it will also ‘urgently strengthen [its] creative, approval, and sign-off safeguards.
They added: “There is no excuse for this. We apologise unreservedly and will take the necessary steps to make sure this does not happen again.”
