Aldi is giving its first 500 customers a £5 voucher to “help shake off the Monday morning slump” after England won its place in the Fifa World Cup’s quarter-finals at 2am this morning.
The voucher is designed to give tired fans “a boost after a sleepless night of football,” after millions of fans stayed up into the early hours to cheer on the Three Lions.
The £5 vouchers were made available from 8am today (6 July) on a first-come, first-served basis.
Aldi has also cut the price of prosecco to £5.49 for 24-hours as England advances through the competition.
If England goes all the way and wins the trophy, the price will fall to just £3.99, according to the retailer.
Further discounts at the discount giant will be unlocked with each knockout-stage victory.
Each promotional price will be available for a 24-hour period within 48 hours of the relevant match, before returning to the standard retail price of £7.99.
Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield said: “There will be a lot of tired people this morning after staying up to cheer England on, so we wanted to give the first 500 early risers a little boost to start the week.
“We hope our £5 vouchers help make Monday morning just that bit easier – and, hopefully, even more enjoyable after a great result.”
