Tesco has been named the UK’s most valuable retail brand, with its brand value climbing to £7.6bn, according to Kantar’s latest BrandZ ranking.

Britain’s largest supermarket came eighth in the overall ranking of the country’s most valuable brands, making it the highest-ranked retailer on the list.

Its valuation compares with £6.6bn in Kantar’s 2025 ranking, when Tesco was the sixth most valuable UK brand overall.

The figures form part of Kantar BrandZ’s Top 75 Most Valuable UK Brands 2026 report, which found the combined value of Britain’s leading brands surged 30 per cent year on year to a record £242.3bn.

HSBC retained the top spot across all sectors after its brand value jumped 89 per cent to £30.8bn, followed by Vodafone at £17.8bn and Shell at £14.6bn.

Revolut climbed to fourth place after its value soared 92 per cent to £10bn, making it the fastest-growing brand in the ranking, while Barclays rounded out the top five at £9.7bn.

Kantar’s research, based on consumer perception and financial performance data, draws on responses from around 177,000 UK consumers.

The research group measures the value a brand contributes to its parent company by combining financial performance with factors including consumers’ likelihood to choose it, willingness to pay a premium and expectations for future growth.

Kantar said brands demonstrating strong ‘Future Power’, its measure of their ability to generate future demand, grew four times faster than those scoring poorly on the metric.

The report also found brands considered highly “meaningful” to consumers achieved 140 per cent brand value growth, compared with 43 per cent among those scoring highly for differentiation.

Ten brands entered the UK top 75 for the first time this year, including Ariel, Formula 1, Bupa, Fairy and Panadol.
