John Lewis has invested in its online services to meet increasing demand by opening two new distribution centres in Milton Keynes, expanding its Magna Park location.

This comes amid a £250 million investment into distribution, part of the company‘s five year and £500 million investment strategy.

Magna Park is now one of Europe‘s biggest distribution centres standing at 2.4 million square foot.

The expansion will also see 500 new jobs made available in the warehouse, which includes a training facility for its staff.

It has reported that demand for deliveries had grown exponentially, from four per cent of sales to 47 per cent in the last decade.

From last year online sales were up 21.4 per cent and the company stated it was processing 18 per cent more parcels over Black Friday in 2015 than the previous year.

“Our distribution centres are at the heart of our business and these advanced facilities enable us to adapt to the ever-evolving retail market,” John Lewis operations manager Dino Rocos said.

“Customers want quick and convenient deliveries and fast replenishment of our shops, this investment puts us in a strong position for the years to come.”
