Holland & Barrett rakes in more potential bidders

Holland & Barrett has attracted the interest of heavyweight investment firm Letter 1 which counts former Lidl and Argos bosses as its advisors.

The investment company is the latest to express interest in the health foods chain, as the Superdrug owner AS Watson Group was revealed to be considering a £1 billion bid earlier this week, according to Retail Week.

Both former Argos boss John Walden and Lidl‘s ex-boss Karl-Heinz Holland act as advisors to the investment firm, which has expressed interest in large scale retail investment.

Letter 1 has yet to acquire any retail assets, but states its focus is on energy, technology, health and retail. The firm stated on its website that it hopes to invest $3 billion in retail businesses it believes can become leaders in long term trends.

It plans to “buy and build 21st-century retail stars. We are leveraging our strong track record in retail to invest in and build the next generation of retailers internationally”.
