Thom Sweeney goes Stateside with New York store opening

British tailoring brand Thom Sweeney has crossed the pond to open its first store outside the UK, setting up a shop in New York’s SoHo neighbourhood.

The shop offers the upmarket menswear brand’s ready-to-wear styles, and also include its bespoke and made-to-measure business.

Thom Sweeney currently trades from two locations in Mayfair, London, as well as through its own ecommerce platform and an online concession with Mr Porter.

“It feels like a natural progression to open a space in New York where we have a nice following of around 200 clients [for bespoke and made-to-measure],” co-founder Luke Sweeney told Business of Fashion.

“Instead of doing trunk shows out of hotel suites, we will create retail space that will hold [bespoke] appointments every eight weeks.”

Founded in 2007, Thom Sweeney prides itself on using Savile Row tailoring techniques, although it does not have a store on that world-famous Mayfair street.

Celebrities such as Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne are some of the names who have worn the brand.
