Typo to more than double store count before Christmas

Stationery and gifting retailer Typo has unveiled plans to more than double its store count in the UK before Christmas, only a year after its first bricks-and-mortar store opened.

The Australian retailer, which operates 200 stores across 13 international markets, first launched in the the UK as an online-only retailer in 2015 before it opened its first store in Westfield Stratford City in December last year.

It took a few months before its second store opened at The Bentall Centre, Kingston in August this year.

In the coming days, new stores will open in Cambridge, Bath and in Bluewater shopping centre, Kent, creating 12 permanent new jobs for each store.

Typo is also poised to expand its online reach by becoming part of Asos’ new gifting category.

The retailer said the decision to expand came after experiencing unprecedented online sales and forms part of its ambitions to open around 100 stores in the UK in the next five to 10 years.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding our UK footprint,” Typo’s newly-appointed UK brand manager Sally Howard said.

“Since the opening of our Stratford store in December last year, we’ve seen great traction both online and in store with sales soaring beyond all expectations.

“Our new stores in Bluewater, Cambridge and Bath have been selected based on key areas of growth for us and they will create 12 jobs per store.

“We’ve doubled the number of customers shopping with us online year-on-year, and our increase in online traffic is driving the demand for more stores in key locations that are consistent with where our online customers are located.”
