M&S poaches Morrisons’ operations exec as store director

Marks & Spencer has poached the operations director of Morrisons, David Lepley, to take on the role of stores director.

Lepley will report to M&S retail, operations and property director Sacha Berendji.

He began his career at Morrisons as store replenishment director in 2016, and was later promoted to operations director in 2017.

Before that, he was the general store manager at Asda since 2006, and was promoted to vice president of online grocery operations.

Lepley is expected to improve M&S’s store operations and will be responsible for M&S’s owned stores in the UK and Ireland.

“As part of our business transformation we’re recruiting new talent at pace for key areas of M&S,” Berendji said.

“Our store teams play a critical role in our transformation, so we’re pleased that David Lepley will be joining as our director of stores.

“We also remain focused on responding to changing consumer habits and reshaping our store estate to ensure we’re offering our customers the very best experience, however, whenever and wherever they want to shop with us – from the very best service to the very best in-store tech.”
