Centre:MK reports footfall growth bucking national trend

One of the top 10 shopping centres in the UK, Centre:MK, is bucking the nationwide trend of decline by reporting a 2.5 per cent increase in footfall year-on-year.

The Milton Keynes shopping centre has been attracting high-spending shoppers, due to its the convenient layout and range of retailers available including John Lewis and Primark.

Centre:MK continues to appeal to both shoppers as well as retailers, welcoming 10 new retailers last year – Neon Sheep, Newbie, Typo, Primark, Chatime, Morano’s, Trailfinders, Skechers, Lovisa and Lush.

“We are pleased to have welcomed so many new brands into the centre and look forward to welcoming more in 2020,” Centre:MK centre director Kevin Duffy said.

“Our £50 million investment programme including our award winning guest services and ‘smart’ car park reflects our ongoing commitment to both our retailers and shoppers and we believe Centre:MK will go from strength to strength as we move into the new year.”

Centre:MK saw more than three million visitors over the festive period.

The centre also opened at 6am on Boxing Day to welcome over 100,000 shoppers looking for bargains in annual sales event.

Shoppers were seen queuing outside stores from after midnight to be first in line for the discounts.

Almost 1000 shoppers queued to be first in line for Next’s Boxing Dale sales.

Spend has been strong with retailers reporting significant growth year on year sales.

Popular sale items across retailers included women’s fashion, smart TVs, jewellery and fragrances.
