Fred Perry has dropped some of its independent wholesale accounts as it reassesses its distribution network.

The British heritage retailer said it was reviewing stockists as part of its strategy to further elevate the brand experience, Drapers reports.

The business said it has “increased its ambition and expectation” towards the “quality” of stockists to make sure they “enhance from its brand equity”.

“The assertion that we are focusing on bigger accounts would be the wrong conclusion to make as the vast majority of accounts we have parted ways from in the last free years have been ‘major’ accounts,” the retailer told Drapers.

Fred Perry is not the only retailer to cut ties with indie stockists in recent months.

Both Ugg and Hugo Boss made the decision last year to exit smaller wholesale accounts.
