AO is recruiting more than 250 staff members to grow its customer service specialists team.

The company is offering new starters a development pathway, where they can raise their starting salary of £24,000 up to £31,000 within a year, as they work towards becoming customer service specialists.

The news comes after the electrical retailer recently gave its contact centre agents pay rises of more than 20% over the past 12 months, as well as a performance based bonus.

AO head of contact centre transformation Jo Salisbury said: “Our customer service specialists go through AO’s Academy process, seeing them grow and develop their existing customer service skills.

“All colleagues will then have the opportunity to progress every three months, through four achievable development bands, to the stage where they are an expert on all things AO and earning a fantastic £31,000.”

Back in January, it was revealed that AO had raised its profit expectations, despite suffering a 17.2% drop in sales at its core UK business in the third quarter.

Despite the retailer confirming its sales were lower than last year, it said they were in line with management expectations.

In November, AO also warned of the continued impact of the cost-of-living crisis as it suffered widening half-year losses.
