Asda locks prices on over 500 food essentials

Asda has frozen the prices of more than 500 branded and own-brand products as it looks to “give customers more control over what they spend each week”.

The price lock, which runs until the end of August, includes a number of cupboard essentials and summer favourites such as salads, burgers and ice cream.

The initiative comes as the latest figures from Asda’s Income Tracker show that household disposable income continues to fall on a month-by-month basis.

The supermarket chain is also offering customers the chance to trail its delivery pass service, which removes the online delivery charge, until 10 July.

Chief commercial officer Kris Comerford said: “We’re always looking at ways we can support our customers and communities throughout the year, which is why we’re locking the prices of hundreds of products until the end of August.

“We know that household budgets are tight at the moment, so we want to be able to offer the best value and give customers the confidence they can shop the products they love throughout summer.”

Earlier this week, Waitrose revealed it had slashed the prices of more than 200 everyday products as part of a £100m investment to lower customers’ bills as inflation continues to surge.
