Pret to expand subscription offer worldwide and double discount to 20%

Pret A Manger will be expanding its subscription offer from 5 September, doubling the discount for Club Pret from 10% to 20%.

The chain added that Club Pret will be soon available to customers around the world, expanding to the US next month, followed by France in November and all other global markets from 2024.

First launched in the UK in April this year, the expanded subscription has been a hit with customers so far, with 17.8m redemptions in its first three months, up 31% year-on-year.

The high-street chain, which trades from 439 UK shops, first launched its coffee subscription service in September 2020,  in a bid to stay afloat during the pandemic which hammered sales.

Club Pret transactions are up 33% month-on-month since its launch in April, while one in five Club Pret transactions now include a purchase alongside the redemption of a barista-made drink.

Pret A Manger chief executive Pano Christou said: “Since we relaunched the subscription, we’re seeing more customers pick up their favourite baguette or croissant with their usual coffee fix, making the most of Club Pret throughout the day, and sharing the benefits with their friends and colleagues.

“We’re now ready to take this even further, doubling the Club Pret discount and expanding this offer to customers outside of the UK. Club Pret has become a critical part of our growth strategy and we’re excited to bring it to more people than ever before, delivering great value in the process.”

Club Pret has “already had a significant impact” on the company’s growth, as it returned to profitability in July for the first time since 2018.

The group, which suffered during the pandemic lockdowns, reported an operating profit of £50.6m in the year to December 2022, up from a loss of £225.9m in the previous year. It marks its first shift to profitability since the £19.6m recorded in 2018.

The retailer’s revival has continued into this year, with sales rocketing 20% to £429.9m in the six months to the end of June.
