Amazon opened a new fulfilment centre in Northampton and revealed plans for a second site in nearby Kettering as its investment in the county topped £1 billion.
The ecommerce giant said the two developments would create more than 4000 jobs across Northamptonshire.
Amazon described the Northampton site as one of its most advanced logistics operations in the UK, with tens of millions of items stored across three floors of robotics.
The planned 900,000 sq ft Kettering fulfilment centre is expected to process around 20 million items each week.
Recruitment is underway for 2000 roles at the site, including engineers, HR and IT professionals, finance specialists and operations staff.
Amazon UK country manager John Boumphrey said: “A year ago we said we planned to invest £40 billion in the UK. Today you can see what that means; from 4000 jobs in Northamptonshire and 2000 in Hull, to drone deliveries from Darlington and a new tech HQ in Swansea.
“We said we’d deliver and we have. And we’re only a year in.”
Amazon also expanded its London headquarters in Shoreditch with the opening of a third building.
The site now houses around 6000 employees working on products and technology for the retailer, and includes more than 140 collaboration spaces.
