Time Out is set to open its first London food and cultural market at Piccadilly Circus, creating around 130 jobs.
The media and hospitality group has signed a long-term agreement with The Crown Estate to launch Time Out Market London at the 10 Piccadilly development, 55 Regent Street, in summer 2028.
The seven-figure investment will span more than 26,400 sq ft across three floors, and bring together around 15 London restaurants, bars and food operators alongside live music, exhibitions, performances and other cultural events.
Time Out said the site would become the global flagship of its market portfolio and act as a blueprint for the next generation of locations, combining hospitality, media, sponsorship and live experiences.
The development sits at the intersection of Regent Street, Piccadilly and Piccadilly Circus, an area that attracts around 74 million visitors annually.
‘One of the most significant milestones in Time Out history’
Time Out Market London is expected to be the group’s 18th or 19th market worldwide by the time it opens.
The company currently operates 13 sites across four continents, which collectively attract more than 12 million visitors each year and feature more than 300 chef-led kitchens, restaurants and bars.
The first Time Out Market opened in Lisbon in 2014, with the concept later expanding into cities including New York, Barcelona, Dubai, Cape Town, Osaka, Montreal and Vancouver.
Time Out Group chief executive Chris Ohlund said: “Securing this partnership with The Crown Estate to create our global flagship in the heart of Piccadilly Circus is one of the most significant milestones in Time Out’s nearly 60-year history.
“London is one of the world’s greatest cities for food and culture, and there is no better location than Piccadilly Circus to showcase everything that makes it extraordinary.”
He added that the venue would provide a platform for London’s chefs, restaurateurs, artists and creators while welcoming millions of residents and visitors each year.
Crown Estate steps up Regent Street investment
The Crown Estate said the market would strengthen Regent Street’s hospitality offer and help drive footfall across one of London’s most prominent shopping destinations.
Head of Regent Street Charles Owen said: “It is a significant addition to one of the world’s most recognised retail and lifestyle destinations.
“It reflects the area’s continued appeal to innovative international brands and demonstrates our long-term commitment to investing in Regent Street.”
The market will occupy a restored historic building and incorporate energy-efficient systems, food-waste reduction initiatives and local sourcing where possible.
Time Out said details of the restaurant line-up, cultural programme and precise opening date would be announced closer to launch.
