Youth fashion retailer Supergroup has poached luxury label Burberry‘s Distribution Director Gordon Knox to head up its logistics department, it has been announced.

Starting his new role with immediate effect, Knox will report to the group‘s COO Susanne Given and will take charge of national and overseas distribution.

Knox began working at Burberry in 2005 and was responsible for “the strategic design and operation” of its distribution centres and also played a vital role within the team that helped the British label double its revenues over the past five years, Supergroup said.

Prior to this, Knox also held a number of senior logistics roles at general merchandiser Argos, which today reported a like-for-like sales rise of 2.1 per cent in its full year, and it is hoped that his rounded experience will help boost sales as Supergroup continues to expand.

Supergroup has struggled for some time with its logistics arm, previously reporting major glitches in its warehouse management systems, affecting the supply chain and forcing the retailer to slow down its roll-out of new ranges, though it reported a 10.6 per cent rise in LFL sales over its third quarter thanks to a boost in festive sales as it overcame challenges earlier in the financial year.

Welcoming Knox to his new role, Given commented: “Gordon is a very high pedigree appointment joining us from Burberry, one of the other real success stories of recent years.

“His experience in setting up new distribution hubs will be utilised immediately as we transfer our business over the next year to Burton and in due course overseas as the Superdry brand, its ecommerce operations and estate expands globally.”
