M&S shoppers describe skirt ad as “Crimewatch appeal”

// Images of a woman wearing a £35 Striped Pleated Midaxi Skirt were described as “a Crimewatch appeal”

Marks & Spencer has confused shoppers with its latest clothing piece which has been described as “a Crimewatch appeal”.

The retailer posted a picture of a £35 Striped Pleated Midaxi Skirt on Facebook along with two images.

The images show a woman wearing the dress which shoppers said looks like she’s shoplifting, while others said it looks more like a ‘Crimewatch’ post than a fashion shoot.

The £35 skirt is said to come “in a swishy pleated silhouette, which falls to an elegant midaxi length” with an elasticated waist allowing for “all-day comfort”.

One user took to social media to write: “Thought it was a Crimewatch post.”

A second user wrote: “Time to fire the advertising agency. This add looks more like someone escaping the scene of a crime rather than highlighting the merchandise.”

Another wrote: “First pic looks like a shoplifter making an exit.”

The skirt is now sold out online in every size but size 22.
