Primark has launched its fifth shop in Romania, with the site representing its first in the south-west region.

The store, which is based at the ElectroPutere Mall in Craiova, opened its doors on 9 June.

The move comes as Primark this week celebrates three years since launching its first Romanian site in ParkLake Shopping Centre, Bucharest.

Sharing the news on its LinkedIn page, the discount retailer said that the launch followed an investment of more than €10 million (£8 million) and had created over 100 new jobs.

“We were delighted to celebrate alongside our colleagues, partners and customers and were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Craiova, Lia Olguța Vasilescu, to mark the occasion,” Primark said.

“We’re doubling our presence in Romania this year, with planned openings in Iași, Sibiu and Bacău, and we’re continuing to grow.

“Today, we also confirmed plans to open our third store in Bucharest in our next financial year.

“We can’t wait to welcome customers in Craiova and beyond as we continue our local expansion.”

It comes as Primark has recently made a series of investments into other European countries.

In May, the business revealed that it would invest more than €85 million (£73.4 million) throughout Spain and Portugal, as it pushed ahead with a series of shop openings and upgrades.

The brand also recently launched a Manhattan flagship in the US, marking its 11th shop in New York State.
