Primark is set to open its seventh location in Kent, as it secures a former Debenhams unit in Ashford’s County Square shopping centre.

The 29,000 sq ft of space mergers former Debenhams and Select units into a single trading store. The Debenhams unit has sat empty since January 2020.

When open in the second half of 2027, the new Primark will span almost half of the centre’s upper oval. While, building work to combine the units is due to begin imminently, an exact launch date has not yet been confirmed.

Primark’s UK retail director Kari Rodgers said: “We know there’s been a lot of demand for us to bring Primark to Ashford, so we’re pleased to confirm plans to open in County Square later next year.

“With the demand for great value clothing higher than ever, we’re looking forward to bringing our offer to the town and becoming part of the local community.”

The Ashford site will join branches in Canterbury, Folkestone, Westwood Cross, Tunbridge Wells, Chatham and Gravesend.

Ashford residents have long called for a Primark in the town. In a 2024 survey of 1,200 residents, a third named Primark as the shop they most wanted to see open.

The store will carry Primark’s fashion, kidswear, beauty, lifestyle and home ranges, and will include Click & Collect.

The UK expansion of the discount fashion brand follows a global roll out. In May, Primark opened a flagship store in Manhattan, US, marking its 11th shop in New York State.

Earlier this month, it introduced its fifth shop in Romania with the site representing its first in the south-west region.
