London’s iconic shopping destination Carnaby has welcomed a rhino to its busy high street as part of a month-long collaboration with charity Tusk.

This week marks the launch of Shaftesbury’s, the real estate investment trust behind Carnaby Street and many of the West End’s most popular retail destinations, Tusk Rhino Trial.

In an effort to raise awareness for the conservation of endangered African species, the Rolling Stones’ Ronny Wood designed the sculpture which will launch a trial of other rhinos across London.

Wood is joined by leading UK artists including David Mach and Adam Dant, who have also designed rhinos for the cause which can be found on the trail.

“My inspiration is that this beautiful prehistoric creature should be around for future generations of our children to see. I tried to include motifs from the African flags of the main rhino populated regions,” Wood said.

Shaftesbury’s director Simon Quayle added: “Shaftesbury are proud to support Tusk with the launch of the Rhino Trail and delighted that Carnaby will be home to this spectacular sculpture designed by Ronnie Wood.

“The protection of the planet and endangered species is a matter close to our hearts, and we hope that the campaign will raise awareness to our visitors about how they can also support the cause.”
