Selfridges reveals record-breaking Christmas results

Selfridges has announced a record-breaking Christmas trading period, which it attributed to the exclusive range of products it had on offer.

In a trading update, the luxury department store said that for the 24 days in the run up to Christmas, it recorded an eight per cent overall uplift in sales across all its channels.

The retailer added that sales surged by eight per cent in the final week in the lead up to Christmas.

Meanwhile, Selfridges said sales spiked 10 per cent for just the Oxford Street flagship during the 24 days up to Christmas, which came after it went an extensive revamp – including the opening of a new accessories hall and menswear section in 2018

The retailer said that footfall to all of its stores and online was driven “by newness and exclusive product in the run-up to Christmas, along with in-store entertainment”.

“We are delighted to have delivered such a strong performance over the Christmas period,” Selfridges managing director Anne Pitcher said.

“Our Selfridges Rocks Christmas theme and entertainment really resonated with our customers, both across our stores and online; our customers come to us for the unexpected and I feel this year we delivered just that.”
