Asda poaches Morrisons technology and finance bosses

Asda has raided Morrisons to bolster its leadership team, including the appointment of Matt Kelleher as its first ever chief digital officer

Kelleher, who is currently CIO at Morrisons, will join its Leeds-based rival in July. He will take responsibility for Asda’s data and ecommerce functions and will also lead its technology functions once its ongoing technology transformation project ‘Future’ is complete.

The new CDO will join the grocer’s executive leadership team, led by co-owned Mohsin Issa.

The grocer has also poached Morrisons commercial finance director Atheeq Akbar, who will join Asda as VP, commercial finance in June and will report into CFO Michael Gleeson, who also joined from Morrisons last year.

Issa said: “This is an incredibly exciting time to be part of Asda as our business grows and develops for the benefit of our customers.

“Our use of data and technology transformation is a critical element of our ongoing transformation and I am delighted that we continue to attract new talent and skills as we progress this important work.”
