Poundland has ended its shop closures, as it makes room for clothes designed in-house for its Pep & Co brand.

The retailer is carrying out significant clearance sales throughout 450 stores in a bid to make space for its new in-house designed clothing ranges.

The move comes after Gordon Brothers acquired the brand in June from its parent company Pepco. Roughly 150 of the discount giant’s shops were shut as part of a restructuring programme after the sale.

The business’s decision to clear its current stock comes under broader efforts to end its “restructuring-related store closure programme” and reintroduce its in-house designed clothes to Poundland’s UK and Ireland shops.

The retailer’s revamped clothing team consists of former Pep & Co clothing trading director Maria Epaminondas, who’s leading a buying group with ex-Pep & Co staff Antonia Quinn and Amy Beaumont, alongside new buyers Lesley Robinson and Daina Oosterwyk.

90% of the group’s new collections reportedly cost less than £10, with 45 per cent priced under £5.

The new offer will feature a wider size range for womenswear, in response to increasing consumer demand for broader sizing.

This is set to include new womenswear ranges, with size ranges of UK 8 to UK 22, with a 50% increase to now sell 18 bra sizes, ranging from 34A to 40E.

The budget retailer pledged to keep bra prices the same, “regardless of cup size.”
