Marks & Spencer has reduced prices on about 500 food products as it aims to attract more customers this Easter long weekend.

The retailer has slashed prices on its most popular seasonal items such as Easter eggs, lamb leg, and salmon, and wine.

Customers can now purchase an Easter lunch for up to eight people for £34.18, £3.03 lower than it was during Easter last year.

According to Good Housekeeping magazine, customers can now buy a cheaper lunch at M&S than both Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.

“We’re in the early stages of our transformation plan to broaden the appeal of our food to family-age customers and make M&S more relevant, more often,” M&S head of food Stuart Machin said.

The price cuts are part of M&S’s bid in their battle against discount supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl who have both reported strong growths in their latest trading reports.

Meanwhile, M&S recently announced a £1.5 billion joint venture with Ocado, which will give its food items an online platform.

M&S also struck a sponsorship deal with Britain’s Got Talent in a bid to further broaden its reach as it recently introduced Ant & Dec voice-overs at its self check-out tills.
