Home Bargains to close all stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

// Home Bargains stores will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s day as a thank you to staff
// Boxing Day has historically always been one of the busiest times of the year for retail workers

Home Bargains has said all its stores will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to ensure that all its staff enjoy the festive period with their loved ones.

The value retailer has also confirmed that all Home Bargains stores will close at the earlier time of 5pm on Christmas Eve.

A spokesperson for the business said: “We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year. Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones. Therefore, we feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off around Christmas and New Year.”

Home Bargains is one of the UK’s fastest-growing discount retailers with almost 600 stores, employing more than 28,000 staff.

Back in April, the retailer saw sales surge past £3bn and owner TJ Morris said it is aiming to expand and open new locations.

This year Iceland confirmed its supermarkets and Food Warehouse stores will be closed on Boxing Day to give colleagues a “well-earned rest with their friends & families”.

Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Aldi were among the retailers to have closed their stores on Boxing Day last year.

It was Morrisons’ first time to have kept stores closed on December 26 in living memory.
