Matalan reshuffles senior leadership team as ‘ambitious’ transformation plan continues

Matalan has hired a host of new senior leaders to the company, as it presses on with its “ambitious” business transformation.

The group has appointed former Boden director of product management and experience, David Seeby as its new director of online, in a bid to drive forward its ecommerce offer.

Former Co-op director of strategic planning and solutions John O’Driscoll joins the retailer as its new director of strategy, overseeing the delivery of the leadership team’s strategic plans “to build a stronger, more modern Matalan”.

Matalan is also welcoming ex-Sainsbury’s head of womenswear buying Toni Salters-Warner, to take on the same role at the fashion and homeware specialist.

Additionally, former Primark head of design Jo Murphy joins the firm to serve in the same role, while ex-RS Group vice president group marketing Charlotte Dewhurst has been named as Matalan’s new director of marketing, due to start her role at the beginning of April.

Matalan CEO Jo Whitfield said: “To attract talent of the calibre of each and every one of these individuals is testament to the strength of the Matalan brand and the opportunity that we have to deliver sustainable future growth across our business.

“We are delighted that David, John, Toni, Jo and Charlotte are joining the Matalan team. In different but very important ways, each of their appointments will help us on our mission to serve everyday families better, by offering a choice of stylish, good quality and long-lasting products, all at great prices.”

She added: “With such a highly experienced team in place, we’re now in an even stronger position to deliver our ambitious business transformation programme.”

Last month, Matalan hired former Poundland finance director Dave Williams to replace its outgoing CFO Stephen Hill, who stepped down from the role after 23 years.

Hill is set to remain with the fashion and home retailer as an adviser to the board for the next few months.
