Samsung is likely to unveil its first ever folding phone later this month after months of fevered speculation in the industry.

The technology giant is thought to have kicked off its marketing campaign for its first foldable smartphone, after officially showing off its prototype in October.

A series of giant Samsung posters spread throughout Paris, mysteriously written in the Korean alphabet, read: “the future unfolds…February 20”.

Many have taken this as confirmation that Samsung is due to reveal the device at its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 20, having already stated at the prototypes reveal in October that it would reveal more at the event.

The next generation of smartphone technology is significant news for the retail industry, as not only are combined manufacturers and retailers like Apple and Samsung’s performances so closely tied to smartphone sales, but scores of third-party retailers also largely depend on them.

This also follows an accidental leak by Samsung’s Vietnamese subsidiary over the weekend, when it released a marketing video featuring numerous new devices including its foldable phone, before immediately taking it down.
