Paperchase appoints Duncan Gibson as new chief operating officer

Stationery, gift cards and art materials retailer Paperchase has hired Duncan Gibson to be its new chief operating officer.

According to Retail Week, the move comes as part of a shake-up of its executive board and was simultaneously announced with the promotion of retail finance director Kevin Heath to the role of chief financial officer.

Heath will also replace the role left vacant by David Bateman, who departed in July.

“These are two very important appointments for Paperchase,” chief executive Timothy Melgund said.

“We wanted to find a [chief operating officer] who had real empathy with our Paperchase DNA, who understands the brand‘s potential and can work alongside the current senior team.

“Duncan has consistently demonstrated that in his career and has a real breadth of experience.”

Melgund added: “Kevin Heath has been key figure in the business for many years and I‘m delighted to see him progress to our main board.”

Gibson led organic food delivery company Abel & Cole from 2006 to 2009 and has also held senior roles with The Disney Store, where he was trading director.

His most recent role was as managing director of food wholesaler The Brakes Group, which he held for almost seven years.
